摘要: Yunnan province, located in southwestern China has complex geographic landforms due to varying elevation from 76 to 6740 m a.s.l., which results in different climatic conditions ranging from tropical and subtropical to frigid zones. It is an area famous for its biodiversity in the kingdoms of plants, animals and fungi. There are 25 different human ethnic groups living in the province. It represents 60% of the plant and animal resources of the country with only 6% of the land area. Therefore, it is plentiful in indigenous vegetables (also called wild vegetables in mainland China). These can be found and utilized in different places by local people. Research and development of indigenous vegetables have gradually gained attention by the government andresearch institutions in recent years. Based on market surveys, on-site investigation and data collection, the basic information on germplasm distribution, the research and development situation and constraints to future development are presented and discussed in this paper.
