STATUS OF CANE SUGAR INDUSTRY IN YUNNAN PROVINCE, CHINA

摘要: Aims: To study the current status of sugar industry in Yunnan province and formulate strategies to improve the production efficiency. Methods and Results: Evaluation and studies are based on survey and extension data. Major socio-economic, farmers andprocessing constraints were identified and discussed in detail. Significance of study: A development plan for the Yunnan sugar industry has been carved out with the following goals for 2006-2010: Total Cane area : 267,000 ha; Average cane yield = 82.5tons/ha; Sucrose content (pol % cane) = >14.5%; Average sugar recovery = 12.5%; Total cane production = 22 million tons; Cane available for processing = 20 million tons; Total sugar out put= 2.5 million tons.
