Effects of Modified Atmosphere Packaging and Storage Conditions on Freshness Maintenance of Cut Flowers of Oriental Lily 'Activa'

摘要: Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) with N-2 and 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP), storage temperature, and storage duration on the freshness maintenance of cut flowers of Oriental lily 'Aktiva'. Application of MAP with 1-MCP gas increased the vase life by 8.8 d as compared to the control, and flower opening and senescence were delayed. This effect could be attributed to the reduced ethylene evolution. The vase life of cut lily flowers was increased by the interaction of MAP, storage temperatures at 5 degrees C, and storage duration for 7 d which can be attributed by increased water uptake. This could be related to a delayed flower opening, increased water uptake, and reduced ethylene production. In conclusion, cut flowers treated with 1-MCP packaging and storage at 5 degrees C for 7 d effectively increase the vase life of Oriental cut 'Activa' lily flowers.
